Privacy notice

This notice covers the Pit Rot newsletter: the email signup on this site. That address is the only personal data we ask you for here. We also count visits with Google Analytics, but only if you allow it — see Cookies and analytics. If you have been invited into the closed alpha, signing in to your account or download page also stores a session token in your browser.
What we collect
- The email address you submit.
- Basic technical context sent with the request, kept to prevent abuse and duplicate signups: the approximate time, the page you signed up from, your IP address, and your browser's user-agent string.
- If — and only if — you allow analytics, the visit data described under Cookies and analytics.
Why we collect it
Only to email you about Pit Rot: playtests, milestones, and release. Nothing else. We do not sell or share your address, and we do not use it for advertising.
Double opt-in
When you sign up we send a confirmation email. Your address is not added to the list until you click the link in that email. Every email we send includes a one-click unsubscribe link, and you can leave at any time.
Cookies and analytics
Nothing is stored on your device for analytics, and Google is not contacted at all, unless you allow it. We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people read. It is off when you arrive. We ask once, and the Google script loads — and its cookies are set — only if you choose Allow. Choose No thanks and nothing loads; the site works exactly as it did.
If you do allow it, Google Analytics stores two cookies in your browser
(_ga and _ga_E3QXLT62RB, which expire after two years) to tell
repeat visits from new ones, and sends Google the pages you view, an approximate location
derived from your IP address, and your device and browser type. What we see back is
aggregate: visitor counts and popular pages. We have not enabled Google's advertising
features, we do not use it to build a profile of you, and we do not follow you onto other
sites.
Your answer is kept in your browser's local storage rather than a cookie, purely so we do not ask again. You can change it at any time, here:
Two other things are stored, and neither can be switched off, because the site cannot do what you asked without them. If you are in the closed alpha, signing in on the account or download page keeps a session token in local storage so that you stay signed in — it exists solely for that, is never shared, and signing out removes it. And your analytics answer above is itself remembered the same way. Clearing your browser's site data removes both.
The fonts are served from this site rather than a font network, so if you decline analytics, reading these pages contacts nobody but us.
Who processes your data
- Amazon Web Services (AWS): hosts this site (region: US). AWS acts as our processor.
- Resend: our email provider, used to send the confirmation email and future newsletters. See Resend's privacy policy for how they handle delivery data.
- Google: provides Google Analytics, and receives the visit data above — but only from visitors who allowed it. See Google's privacy policy.
Where your data goes
All three providers are based in the United States, and your email address — plus, if you allowed analytics, your visit data — is stored and processed there. If you are in the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area, or Switzerland, that means your data is transferred outside your home region to a country whose data protection laws differ from your own.
We rely on the data processing agreements we hold with each provider, which incorporate the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (and the UK Addendum to them), as the safeguard for that transfer. You can ask us for details of those safeguards at contact@pitrot.com.
How long we keep it
We keep your address until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Unconfirmed signups are removed periodically.
Your choices
Turn analytics off — or back on — whenever you like, using the control under Cookies and analytics. Turning it off stops any further data reaching Google; to remove what has already been collected, ask us. Unsubscribe from any email, or contact us to access or delete your data.
